Collaboration in the Corridor
Proactive strategies to stem blight and encourage growth
May 2014
Collaboration in the Corridor is a follow up to the 2012 Green ToolBox report. It highlights the importance of a collaborative approach to proactively planning for blight in South Pittsburgh communities, including Mt. Oliver Borough, Brentwood, Baldwin, Whitehall, Carrick and Overbrook. The inclusive process outlined in this report encourages partnerships between local governments, nonprofit agencies, community organizations and residents. Select recommendations that are proactive rather than reactive in nature for addressing both physical and financial indicators of blight are provided.
This report includes:
- assessment of vacant and blighted land
- analysis of tax delinquent and foreclosed homes
- report of the socio-economic conditions of the area’s population
- recommendations for managing blight in communities
- national case studies on successful blight reduction
