GTECH + Pittsburgh Marathon Partner to Green the Race Course

In 2011, GTECH created a green space on Frankstown Avenue near mile marker 17 in the Homewood neighborhood. (See more about it here.) Work began on race day, as volunteers spread compost while cheering for runners. Neighborhood high school students participating in Operation Better Block‘s Junior Green Corps helped us plant, maintain and harvest the sunflowers site. During the 2012 marathon, runners will see that the site is transitioning to a vegetable garden as they run by.
To help support community efforts like these, GTECH and the Pittsburgh Marathon are creating a Clean & Green Fund. This fund will raise money to help reclaim more vacant lots along the marathon route. If you’re interested in helping to support vacant lot reclamation along the marathon route, please consider making a contribution by clicking here. You’ll be directed to GTECH’s secure PayPal site. Thank you for your support and see you along the route!
