ReEnergize Pittsburgh Ambassadors 2014-2015

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to live in Millvale, Hazelwood or Homewood to participate?

Yes, we are only recruiting Ambassadors from Hazelwood, Homewood and Millvale for this program. Not where you live? Don’t worry! There are still ways for you to be involved. Email us to find out more.

I don’t know anything about energy, does this mean I can’t be an Ambassador?

Just because you don’t know much about energy efficiency doesn’t mean you can’t participate! We are looking for strong community members who have an interest in seeing their neighborhood become a better place. Whether you’re a superstar volunteer, or are new to community outreach, we want to be able to tap into your excitement to help connect your neighbors to ways to save energy. As part of your training, you will learn a lot about about energy efficiency!

What is the time commitment for this project?

We expect about 10 hours per week from October through April from all of our Ambassadors.

Training?  When and where will that be?

The first month of the program will be dedicated to training. This involves education sessions around energy efficiency, community outreach, teamwork, public speaking/presentation and planning. Though each Ambassador may already have some level of knowledge around these topics, we want training to be a way to bring everyone up to speed.  Most of the trainings will take place at our office here in the Larimer neighborhood.

Trainings: Wednesdays – 6:30pm-9:00pm
10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29, 12/3, 1/14, 2/11, 3/18

Will I be paid for my work?

Yes! Even though we like to pick Ambassadors who are already active in their community, we understand that we are asking for a big commitment. If selected you will be provided a stipend for your time.

How much will I be paid?

Each Ambassador will have a base stipend of $2000 which can be earned on a monthly basis over the course of the program, if you are able to complete it.

What do you mean a community prize?

It really takes a village to reduce energy use. Because of that we want to reward the entire community who collectively reduces that most energy. This year the prize will be a community green space. Designed by GTECH’s ReClaim team, it will serve as a lasting reminder that you and your community came together to actively reduce your energy use – something that is often invisible.  The home that saves the most energy in each neighborhood will also win a prize!

How will you calculate everyone’s energy use anyway?

Ambassadors will be responsible for recruiting households to reduce their energy use. Part of signing up for the competition involves acquiring permission to view the participating household’s energy use. All of these totals will be added up at the end of the competition to determine the winning neighborhood.

Why will community members want to participate?

It depends on the person, but there can be several reasons.

  1. People might want to save energy and money.
  2. People might want to learn more about how to live healthier lives.
  3. People might want to be part of a project bigger than just saving energy, and win a community prize.
  4. People may be interested in the free energy saving goodies involved with participating.
  5. People may want to win the prize for being the most energy efficient household in the neighborhood.
