About the Project

This community garden, located in Knoxville adjacent to the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, brings library visitors outdoors to take a hands-on approach to learning. With the support of the Carnegie Library, Knoxville branch, Ambassador Linda Piso will run programs throughout the growing season for youth interested in gardening. The site has raised garden beds for vegetables which Linda tends expertly, a large chalkboard, a seating area and a patio made of reclaimed wood slabs from a fallen tree.

“Community is when you know somebody’s in need and you help them. Community is when you say hello to somebody. You’re not locked behind your door because you’re afraid to go out. I think at this point that’s what it is. It’s bringing people together for a common goal and helping each other out.”
